MIRAMAR, Fla. – MSU Denver twins Jonathan and Jordan Duran just missed their bids to make Team USA for the upcoming Paralympic Games.

Competing Saturday at the U.S. Paralympic Trials in the 1,500 meters, both ran personal-best times that got them extremely close to qualifying.

Jonathan's time of 4 minutes, 2.21 seconds put him just 1.7 seconds away from qualifying. Jordan ran 4:03.82, which was 3.3 seconds away from making the team.

For the Paralympics, the United States team includes just 57 athletes for track & field. Selection is based on formulas determining individuals' best chances of earning medals after their Trials performances.

The Duran brothers, who are on the autism spectrum, compete in the T20 classification. Their competition at the Trials included competitors from three different classifications. The winner of the race, Mikey Brannigan, qualified for the Paralympic team.

The Durans are expected to compete for MSU Denver again this fall as sophomores in cross country, in the winter for indoor track & field, and again in the spring during the outdoor season.
