@MSUDenverBSB: Amundson's record-breaking home run leads squad to Friday win

DENVER -- Easton Amundson connects on his 26th home run of 2025 to break the Roadrunners' single-season record, leading his squad to the 10-8 win over UC-Colorado Springs at home on Friday.

DENVER -- Easton Amundson connects on his 26th home run of 2025 to break the Roadrunners' single-season record, leading his squad to the 10-8 win over UC-Colorado Springs at home on Friday.

"It was awesome," Amundson said after the game. "I saw a first-pitch fastball and swung at it. That was a really great moment. I kind of got trucked by Matt Malkin over there at first, that was super cool."

Malkin, who is an assistant coach with the baseball team, was the previous record holder, who belted 25 round trippers in 2019. Amundson gives a lot of credit to Malkin, who provided bits of baseball bashing wisdom.

"We're always talking swings and talking approach," Admundson said. "He's always talking me through the game. He's been a really great mentor and just a really great guy to have in the dugout. And a great resource for hitting as well."

"If you're going to beat the school record, you might as well hit it 500 feet. That was a no doubter," Head coach Ryan Strain on Amundson's record breaker. "For Easton, he's got a lot of power. When he gets it, he gets it good. Just happy for him and happy that Matt was here too. When he hits them, they're not wall scrapers."

Admundson's home run was one of five hit against the Mountain Lions in the cold, misty evening in downtown Denver. Andrew Graham and Gave Schmeh both hit home runs, while Royce Vandine hit two in the Roadrunners win.

Amundson's record breaker tied the game at 4-4 in the third inning, while Schmeh's three-run blast put MSU Denver ahead 7-4 in the fifth.

UCCS scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings, while notching two in the ninth to get to within two of the home team.

That's when Strain brought in closer Carter Swan, who struck out two batters to close out the win and earn his conference-leading seventh save.

The victory improves MSU Denver's record to 26-17 overall with an 18-7 mark in the RMAC. The Roadrunners have already clinched a spot in the RMAC Tournament in two weeks and currently sit in the third spot.

The Roadrunners will be back in action on Saturday afternoon taking on UC-Colorado Springs for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
