@MSUDenverBSB: Roadrunners edge out two wins against the Orediggers on Saturday
DENVER -- The offense and Carter Swan helps the Roadrunners to edge out the Orediggers in two close victories during Saturday's doubleheader.
The Roadrunners started out strong vs the Orediggers scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Andrew Graham had himself a day at the plate. He had a pair of homers in the game, and he started it with a two-run shot in the first inning.
RMAC Pitcher of the Week Nolan Livsey took the hill and started out strong with three hitless innings. The lefty had some defensive help as middle infielders Gavin Schmeh and River Jackson turned a pair of double plays that ended the Mines threats in the second and third innings.
MSU Denver had an 8-0 lead going into the fourth before the CSM bats woke up and scored seven runs in the inning. The teams went back and forth, each scoring runs in the fifth and six innings.
Kobe Krenz came out in the fourth inning and delivered a strong 1 ⅔ performance in relief. The redshirt senior faced eight batters and allowed two hits and just one run which was unearned as well as striking out two. He would get credited for the win.
The game was tied going into the bottom of the sixth 9-9 before Andrew Graham delivered with his second home run of the day leading off the bottom half. This was Graham's fourth RBI in the game and helped MSU Denver secure a one-run lead before Andrew Biddle had an RBI single down the third-base line that helped Easton Amundson score giving the home team a two-run cushion.
The Roadrunners were leading 11-9 going into the final frame, which brought in their reliable lefty closer Carter Swan. Swan would finish the job going three up, three down with a strikeout that helped him earn his third save on the year.
The Roadrunners showed adversity and grit after Mines tied the game twice. They would take game two of the series with a final score of 11-9 before heading back out thirty minutes later for the second game of the double header.

With all the fireworks game one had delivered, there was no way this game could amount to the same level of intensity. If you were able to tune in, you were in for what felt like a heavyweight title match.
Just like game one, a team started out hot offensively and grabbed a big lead. However, this time it would be Mines who got the party started, scoring four runs in the top half of the first before Cam Yuran answered back with an RBI double to plate one for MSU Denver.
The Orediggers would tack on four more between the second and third before the Roadrunners offense exploded with four runs in the bottom half of the third. Erubial Ortiz picked up a single before designated hitter Jesse Velders hit a two run homer, his second in back to back days that would cut the lead down to five.
MSU Denver scratched off a couple more runs off an Easton Amundson double and an RBI single from Royce Vandine. After three innings, MSU Denver trailed 8-5.
Noah Marks came in for relief for the Roadrunners and went 3 ⅔ allowing three runs on six hits while also fanning three. He did his best to mitigate the damage and gave the Roadrunners a chance in the bottom of the fourth.
Andrew Biddle kept the action up as he had an RBI single to short that allowed River Jackson to score, cutting the lead down to two.
MSU Denver would later load the bases, giving Cam Yuran a chance at the plate. The senior would not disappoint, as he rocketed a grand slam over the left field wall that capped off a five-run inning giving the hometown squad their first lead of the game at 10-8. This was his 48th home run in his career.
The Orediggers would not give up scoring two in the top half of the sixth bringing the game back to a deadlock at 10-10.
The Roadrunners has shown grit in the face of adversity all year and once again the bats came through. Ortiz, who had a great second game of the doubleheader, led the inning off with a solo home run that gave his squad a one run lead. Head coach Ryan Strain told Ortiz before the inning to "hunt the fastball" and No. 25 delivered.
Graham would reach base off a single before swiping a bag moving him into scoring position for Amundson. Amundson, who leads the team in home runs, hit an absolute moonshot over the right field wall that padded the lead to three. MSU would lead 13-10 going into the final frame.
Coach Strain brought in his dependable closer Swan once again for another save opportunity. The Castle Rock native would not disappoint. Swan faced three batters, the first he retired on a groundout. Next up was leadoff man Jackson Woolwine, who reached base on a walk. Jackson Babcock would come to the dish next and he popped out to shallow center field that allowed Schmeh to make the grab. However, Woolwine was not aware and was going on the pitch no matter what and he before he had a chance to get back to first was thrown out for a game-ending double play. MSU Denver held on for the win in tantalizing fashion securing Swan's fourth save of the year and the Roadrunners' 13-10 victory.
Key Players
