@MSUDenverMBB: Roadrunners Fall in Double OT Thriller vs Colorado Mesa
GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - This high-powered matchup featured 15 lead changes, 12 ties and the Roadrunners led for a total of 31 minutes of game time, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the they fall to the Mavericks in Grand Junction.
MSU had plenty of chances as the team shot 40.6 percent from behind the three point arc and converted 13 times on 32 attempts. But once again, it was free throws that were the thorn in the team's side. They got to the charity stripe 22 times but only cashed in 14 of them for 64 percent, while Colorado Mesa made the most of their chances going 13-for-15 on the night. The Mavericks have played in a total of eight one-possession ball games with them coming out on top in six of those matchups. Their experience showed as the team stayed calm and collected going 5-for-6 over the course of the two overtime periods.
At times it looked like MSU Denver would run away with this game in the second half as they went on multiple 7-0 runs and led by as many as seven with a little over seven minutes remaining in the second half half. However, they were never able to fully close the door as Colorado Mesa continued to fight back. MSU Denver has now lost three of their last four in conference play, but there are positives to take away from tonight.
MSU Denver limited turnovers tonight as they only racked up 12 over 50 minutes of play. They had 24 assists on 29 made baskets, three short of tying a season high. They shot 47 percent overall from the field and 40 percent from the arc. But the aforementioned free throws and rebounds proved to be the difference maker as the Roadrunners lost on the glass 40-32, which led to Mesa getting up an extra six shots.
