@MSUDenverMBB: Men's basketball squeaks out three-point win vs UT-Tyler

ALPINE, TEXAS – On a night where the offense didn't come as easily as last night's game, the men's basketball team was still able to squeak out a three-point victory over UT-Tyler.

The 62-59 win improved their record to 2-0 on the season. 
 
The Roadrunners were trailing at the halfway mark after shooting just 36 percent from the field, while shooting just 29 percent from beyond the arc. Senior forward Caleb McGill scored nine points in the first half, shooting just 1-of-4 from the field. He was able to go 6-for-6 from the free throw, while the team as a whole went 9-for-11 to keep pace with the Patriots. 
 
UT-Tyler shot 56 percent from the field, which included 5-for-5 from Sam Phipps, who led all scorers at halftime with 11 points. The Patriots did turn the basketball over eight times in the first 20 minutes, allowing the Roadrunners to capitalize for 10 of their 32 points. 
 
The second half was a battle between the two squads. Neither team was able to push the lead to more than four points. 
 
After the Patriots missed two layup opportunities with 20 seconds left, McGill was able to find sophomore guard Logan Threatt for a fastbreak dunk to give his team the 60-57 lead. UT-Tyler was able to answer back with a layup by Akok Machar to get it back to within one with seven second left, but junior guard Quave Propst-Allison was able to knock down two free throws to help his team go back up by three points. 
 
Propst-Allison hit three three-pointers, went 5-for-5 from the line and matched a career-high scoring 16 points.
 
The Patriots had one chance left, but Dontrell Hewlett missed a three-point shot at the very end. UT-Tyler falls to 0-2 on the season. They fell to RMAC foe Black Hills State in their opening game on Saturday.
