@MSUDenverMSOC: Late Goal Downs Roadrunners
GOLDEN, COLO. – It was a chilly night in Golden…if that's how you describe playing in a snowstorm.
After shifting game times around the RMAC all day due to weather, the MSU Denver men's soccer team finally got underway against Colorado School of Mines at 6 p.m. under the lights, ending the regular season in a 3-4 loss.
The Orediggers went up by two early in the first half, scoring their first goal in the seventh minute and their second from a corner kick in the 15th minute.
Once adjusted to the conditions on the field, the Roadrunners got their first goal of the match in the 22nd minute. After bouncing around the box a few times, Charlie Matsumoto got the ball to Luke Bone who sent it to the top-right corner of the net on his first touch.
The Roadrunners would go into halftime with a score of 2-1 in favor of the Orediggers – the field completely covered in snow.
Once lines were shoveled out during halftime, the field was ready for another 45 minutes of action as the snow was still coming down.
The Roadrunners evened things up at 2-2 in the 71st minute with a header from Zack Williams, who caught the end of a perfectly timed cross from Parker Landry on the left wing. It wouldn't take the Orediggers long to get back ahead though, as they responded with their third goal of the night just four minutes later.
Even though the weather was less than ideal, the match itself made up for it as the excitement extended into the final ten minutes.
Parker Landry tied things up once more for the Roadrunners at 3-3 in the 82nd minute, heading the ball into the net off of a corner kick from Luke Bone, giving both Landry and Bone a goal and an assist each on the day.
While things remained competitive on both ends of the field, it was the Orediggers who recorded the seventh goal of the game, scoring the game-winner in the 88th minute. The match would finish 4-3 in favor of the Orediggers.
The Roadrunners (7-8-3 overall, 4-4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) look ahead to Sunday, November 10, as they await who they will be playing in the first round of the RMAC Tournament.
The bracket for the tournament and information on who the Roadrunners will be playing will be shared on RoadrunnersAthletics.com and social media as soon as it becomes available.
