@MSUDenverTennis: Women's team defeats Emporia State 4-3 in Texas
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Roadrunners women's tennis team defeated Emporia State 4-3 to start off their Texas road trip off on the right foot.
The men's team fell to Emporia State 4-2 in their opening match of the road trip.
Despite losing the doubles point to the Hornets, the women's team was able to rally with four wins during the singles competition.
In No. 1 singles, Hanna Haber battled in a hard-fought first set to sneak out with the 7-6 first set win and then carried that momentum into the second set winning 6-2.
Kim Heddes went three sets in No. 2 singles. She took the first set 6-4, before dropping the second set 6-4. But the junior buckled down and came out with the 7-5 set three victory.
It took three sets to decide the fate of the No. 3 singles matchup, and it was Victoria Ricaurte-Cabas who came out on top with a 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 win.
Kambra Roles won her No. 4 singles match 6-2, 7-6, helping the team win their fourth straight match.
The men's team saw their three-match win steak come to a close, as only Alejandro Jimenez and Alessandro Munoz came away with singles-match victories.
Both squads will be back in action tomorrow morning taking on the host team of Lubbock Christian.
