DENVER – Junior guard Mikylah Espinosa was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Thornton native helped the women's basketball team go 1-1 on the road this past weekend. MSU Denver fell 74-66 to Fort Lewis in Durango, then battled to the 70-64 win over Adams State in Alamosa.

Against the Skyhawks, Espinosa pulled down seven rebounds, dished out four assists and nabbed three steals. She was even better the following night scoring 16 points, while grabbing nine rebounds, handing out three assists and recording four steals.

This is the first weekly RMAC award for any women's basketball player this season. Espinosa last earned a nod back during the 2022-2023 season when she was also named the conference's defensive player of the week for December 12th.

Espinosa has 33 steals on the season and leads the RMAC in steals per game with a 4.1 mark. The junior had 10 steals in one game against Saint Martin's back on November 30. Her team's defense allows just 66.4 points per game on the season.

The women's basketball team is back at home this week, as they host Western Colorado on Thursday night, before welcoming in Westminster on Saturday afternoon.
