DENVER - The MSU Denver women's basketball team secured a dramatic 68-66 home victory over Colorado Christian on Thursday night. Mikylah Espinosa played the hero for the Roadrunners, sinking the go-ahead shot with seven seconds remaining to seal the win.
 
The game was a closely contested affair, featuring six lead changes and five ties. MSU Denver started strong, building a 19-10 lead in the first quarter, fueled by efficient shooting and tough defense. Colorado Christian battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the Roadrunners 21-16.
 
MSU Denver shot 54.7% from the field and were led by Espinosa who paced MSU Denver with 17 points, six steals, and four assists. She received significant help from Ashlyn Yow and Brianna Sealy, who combined for 31 points and kept the Roadrunners ahead in crucial moments. Sealy was perfect from the field, hitting all seven of her shot attempts, while Yow knocked down four three-pointers to stretch the Cougar defense.
 
The decisive play came in the waning moments when Espinosa calmly hit a jumper to break the 66-66 deadlock. Colorado Christian had a chance to tie or take the lead, but their final attempt fell short as time expired.
 
With the victory, MSU Denver improves to 4-11 overall and 3-4 in RMAC play. The Roadrunners will look to build on their momentum as they prepare for their next matchup against UCCS on Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m.
