@MSUDenverWGOLF: Roadrunners Gear Up for RMAC Championship
DENVER – MSU Denver is seeking to play its best golf of the season at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship.
The tournament is Sunday through Tuesday at the Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nev., with tee times Sunday and Monday at 10 a.m. PDT, and Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. PDT.
"We have seen a ton of great things from the girls leading up to this weekend," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "They are working hard and focusing on their routines and course management."
MSU Denver has played some high-level golf at each of the past three RMAC Championships, with a fifth-place finish in 2021 and back-to-back sixth-place results the past two years.
"I think we should be more than capable of a top-three finish at conference," Ferguson said. "There's potential for more, but it would take three really good rounds."
The three-round format is a little different than usual – the Roadrunners played three three-round events in the fall but haven't during the spring season. However, they have played four tournament rounds in six days twice this spring.
At the Boulder Creek setup, the teams will play nine holes that are the same as at last year's tournament, as well as nine holes that weren't part of the tournament course last season.
"It's a pretty open desert course and has reachable par 5s which suit our longer hitters," Ferguson said.
MSU Denver seniors Vaijayanti Bharkhada (78.0 career scoring average), Isabel Botero (79.6) and Sydney Eye (81.1) are among the top players in program history, while junior Mackenzie Carpenter and freshman Neige Dunn have also shown the ability to turn in high-level rounds.
"I would love to see the seniors have a great last event and enjoy every moment of it," Ferguson sad. "Neige has been playing really well, so I'm hoping she can have a good tournament as well."
