This Week in Roadrunners Athletics

DENVER — It's another action filled week in MSU Denver Roadrunners Athletics with baseball, softball, track and field, and golf all set to compete over the next six days. 

Softball will be the one Roadrunner program at home over the weekend, set to play four games with the RMAC leading Colorado Christian Cougars at the Assembly Athletic Complex. Baseball, track and field, and golf will be the three teams playing away from Denver.

Head coach Ryan Strain and his team are coming off a perfect weekend at home, where they took down fellow RMAC opponent Colorado School of Mines in all four games. The team is now 13-13 and 5-3 in conference play thus far. They will head to Alamosa this weekend for a four-game set with Adams State. 

Andrew Graham has been scorching hot at the plate for the Roadrunners and went 8-for-16 this last weekend with two home runs and 10 RBIs. He improved his team-leading batting average to .443 with his impressive series.

Annie Van Wetzinga has led her squad to an eight-game winning streak, after sweeping Black Hills State at home this last weekend The Roadrunners have won 17 of their last 18 and currently sit at second place in the RMAC standings with a 25-7 (20-3 RMAC) overall record, with a pivotal showdown against first-place Colorado Christian this weekend. 

Natalie Romero was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's softball Pitcher of the Week after throwing 13 shutout innings against BHSU. The Roadrunners ace in the circle went six innings with four strikeouts while allowing three hits in game one of the series, which saw a 9-1 run-rule MSU Denver win. She went seven innings in game one on Sunday, giving up five hits and striking out eight on the way to a 3-0 shutout Roadrunners win. 

WOMEN'S GOLF
Sunday/Monday, 3/30-3/31: WT Desert Invitational

The Roadrunners head back to Arizona this coming week for the WT Desert Invitational in Tucson. The team finished seventh overall in their last tournament at the Southern Colorado Open. 

MSU Denver was led by Mackenzie Carpenter who recorded the top finish on the squad, going +10 and ending 23rd overall in the individual standings. Ainsley Stover went +14 overall and had the second highest finish on the team with a 34th place finish. 

TRACK AND FIELD 
Thursday, 3/27: Mines Midweek Meet
Friday, 3/28: Chuck Hearing Invitational

Head coach Janis Christopher and her squads will compete in two meets in the coming days. They will start with the Mines Midweek meet tomorrow afternoon and then will head down to Pueblo Friday afternoon for the Chuck Hearing Invitational. 

Jo Billington led the Roadrunners last weekend during the Dan Caprioglio Invitaitonal, finishing first in both of his events (triple jump, long jump) including a personal best (14.40 meters) in the triple jump.
