@MSUDenverWGOLF: Roadrunners Turn in Strong Opening Round at RMAC Championship
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Freshman Neige Dunn is tied for sixth individually and MSU Denver is in fourth place – just two strokes out of second – after the opening day of the three-round Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship.
MSU Denver's team total of 11-over 299 is the third-best tournament round in program history, just two strokes behind the 297 it shot earlier this season.
"We had a solid first round," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "Aside from a couple of holes, we played really steady today."
Dunn had three birdies while shooting a 1-over-par 73 on the 6,055-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club course. She's one stroke out of fourth and two out of third.
"I'm so happy for Neige," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "She had a great day and some awesome comeback holes."
Isabel Botero had three birdies while shooting a 2-over 74 to put her tied for 13th and Vaijayanti Bharkhada carded 16 pars while shooting 3-over 75 to tie for 16th.
Sydney Eye was the Roadrunners' fourth scorer with a 77 that puts her tied for 24th, while Mackenzie Carpenter is tied for 28th at 78.
"Isa and V both had great days, too, and overall to have five scores in the 70s is always good," Ferguson said. "We are in a good spot to make a move the next couple of rounds. We just need to keep making pars."
The second round starts Monday at 10 a.m. PDT.
