DENVER – As part of the Metropolitan State University of Denver's larger campaign on its third annual Day of Giving, MSU Denver athletics encourages, welcomes and appreciates public participation in supporting its programs.
 
The MSU Denver Day of Giving is March 21.

Last year's Day of Giving generated $82,311 for MSU Denver students campus-wide.
 
The Roadrunners' 16-sport athletics program is seeking financial support for many of its planned events, including international trips that give teams life-changing experiences, the opportunity to bond with life-long friends and to contribute to the overall success of the teams in their fields of competition. While traveling and often participating in community-service opportunities, the teams play games against international competition.
 
The men's basketball team and men's soccer teams will be traveling to Costa Rica, while the softball team will play in Europe. The women's soccer team is going to the "home" of its sport, England. The women's golf team is looking at playing in Puerto Rico or Hawaii.
 
Meanwhile, the cross country and track & field programs are seeking to add training supplies,  as is the strength and conditioning program. The men's and women's tennis program is pursuing a video camera system.
 
Operational support for the athletics program is also welcomed and appreciated.

MSU Denver has an astounding history of athletic success – including four NCAA Division II national championships – but still awards only 65 percent of the scholarships that are allowed per NCAA rule. Roadrunners Athletics relies upon a dedicated team of supporters, committed to the success of student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field of play. Any gift, of any amount, directly impacts the lives of students-athletes, of which there are over 200 at MSU Denver. 

The MSU Denver men's basketball team, the two-time national champion which has the best winning percentage in the history of Division II basketball, is heading to Costa Rica in August for a nine-day, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trip includes two basketball games against international competition, community service events, and sightseeing. Over 90 percent of the Roadrunners' roster has never been outside of the continental United States.

The two-time national champion MSU Denver women's soccer team is ready to embark upon the program's first foreign tour. The goal will be to see and feel, first-hand, the passion of the "beautiful game" and its strong heritage.

The Roadrunners' softball team is heading to Europe in June for a rare opportunity to see the world and spread the popularity of the sport. This once-in-a-lifetime trip includes international competition, sightseeing, and serving as softball ambassadors. Stops on the softball team's international trip include Prague, Vienna, Venice, Florence and Rome.

The MSU Denver cross country and track & field program is looking to purchase new practice equipment to better prepare athletes for competition. Needs include equipment that will help indoor practices when the weather is cold or snow is present. High jump mats, full-sized hurdles and starter's blocks are in short supply.

The Roadrunners' tennis program is seeking the ability to record and review matches to assist in player development.  Often in tennis competitions there are eight matches going on simultaneously, therefore tracking patterns across all courts becomes prohibitively difficult.

The MSU Denver women's golf team will be competing in Puerto Rico or Hawaii in the fall of 2019. Most of the student-athletes on the team haven't traveled outside the contiguous United States.

The Roadrunners' men's soccer team is going global with a seven-day service-oriented tour of Costa Rica in July. This once-in-a-lifetime trip will allow players and coaches to have the extraordinary opportunity to contribute through community engagement projects, play competitive soccer games, and have fun experiencing another culture.

The MSU Denver strength and conditioning program and its coaches are tasked with the training and development of over 230 athletes daily, from 5 a.m. through 6:30 p.m. It hopes to create a fully functional and fully equipped weight room within the confines of the current room. Basic everyday needs have to be updated.
