DENVER – It's not too late to be part of the 2021 MSU Denver Athletics Hall of Fame Induction and Ceremony.

DENVER – It's not too late to be part of the 2021 MSU Denver Athletics Hall of Fame Induction and Ceremony.

The 7 p.m. Saturday event at the Auraria Event Center is for a power-packed class that that includes former basketball national player of the year Brandon Jefferson, former softball star Christie Robinson, former volleyball coach Debbie Hendricks and former athletic director and coach Joan McDermott.

The ceremony will follow MSU Denver's 3 p.m. home volleyball match against Westminster and is part of Homecoming Weekend. A social hour is scheduled for 6 p.m. followed by the dinner and program. Tickets to the program are $50 for adults and $20 for kids 12 and under.

Hendricks started MSU Denver's run of 20 consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament immediately after taking the reins of the already highly-successful program in 2000. She compiled a 16-year record of 353-148 for a winning percentage of .704, and against RMAC competition she won at an astounding .800 clip (240-60). She led the Roadrunners to three regular-season championships and six RMAC Tournament championships, including both championships from 2001 through 2003 while going 54-3 in regular-season RMAC play. Her 2002 team peaked at No. 2 in the national rankings.

Jefferson was named the Division II player of the year by three different outlets in 2013-14 and four named him All-America first team after helping the Roadrunners to a 32-2 record, including 22-0 in the RMAC, and to a regional championship while setting single-season program records for points (734) and points per game (21.6) and scoring 10 points or more in a school-record 33 straight games. He was also the RMAC player of the year in 2013-14 and was a two-time All-RMAC first team selection. He ranks third all-time on the MSU Denver career scoring list with 1,935 points, fourth with 250 steals and ranks ninth with 297 assists. In his career, he played on teams that compiled a record of 112-20, won three regional titles, and played in the 2012-13 national championship game.

McDermott made her MSU Denver debut as a volleyball and softball coach, but her biggest legacy is presiding over the RMAC's top programs in 17 years as the athletic director. She is a two-time NCAA Division II Athletic Director of the Year and headed the campaign for the $16 million Assembly Athletic Complex, which stands as one of the finest outdoor facilities in Division II. The Roadrunners were two-time national champions in both men's basketball (2000 and 2002) and women's soccer (2004 and 2006) on McDermott's watch, and Roadrunners teams won more than 30 regular-season and post-season RMAC championships during her tenure. McDermott was 136-64 in six years as volleyball coach, leading MSU Denver to two regular-season conference championships and four trips to the NCAA Tournament, and was 50-37 as the softball head coach before embarking upon her pioneering career as a female administrator in collegiate athletics.

Robinson was the Central Region and RMAC Pitcher of the Year in 2010, leading the Roadrunners to a 53-6 record (including 37-2 in the RMAC) and a trip to the semifinals of the NCAA Championships. She was 30-4 in a school-record 209 2/3 innings, with a 1.40 ERA that is by far the best for the program since it was revived in 2008. In her two-year career, Robinson was 55-9 with a 2.08 ERA, 13 shutouts and 214 strikeouts in 393 innings. She is third all-time at MSU Denver in victories and ERA, tied for third in complete games (54), fifth in strikeouts and tied for first in shutouts. Her single season win totals (30 in 2010 and 25 in 2009) are the best in program history – no other pitcher has won more than 20 in a season. She also authored one of the program's 11 all-time no-hitters.
