@MSUDenverSB: Red and Blue Split with UCCS on Senior Day to Close out Regular Season
DENVER — The MSU Denver Roadrunners split their doubleheader with UCCS Saturday afternoon on their senior day and go 2-2 on the weekend against the Mountain Lions.
The Roadrunners end the regular season with a 39-13 overall record and 34-9 in RMAC conference play. They will either be the no. 2 or no. 3 seed for the RMAC tournament that will start this upcoming Wednesday.
It was Jaiden Geist who led the Roadrunners on offense with two towering solo homers in game one, knocking in two runs while coming around to score three times herself. She hit three homers in the series.
Miki Berg also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. She had a two-RBI double in the fifth inning to put the Roadrunners up 6-1.
Another complete game from Natalie Romero gives her a 19-3 record on the campaign. She allowed three runs on six hits while striking out one. She ends the regular season with a 1.84 ERA in 148.2 innings pitched.
Genevieve Bower and Aaliyah Arellano combined for the four MSU Denver hits in the second contest, each tallying two. Bower also came around to score both the Roadrunners runs.
Despite the loss, Jenna Medhus was masterful in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one earned run. She also struck out three batters.
GAME ONE
Just like yesterday, Geist kicked off the scoring with a solo shot to deep center for a Roadrunners 1-0 lead after one inning.
UCCS tied the game the following half inning on a sac fly to right.
Geist belted another homer in the fourth inning for MSU Denver's second run of the game, putting them out in front once again.
A beautiful squeeze bunt laid down by Bueno put her team up 3-1 with just one out in the fourth inning. Lexi Gephart ground out to short which brought home another run, extending the lead to three going into the next frame.
Berg broke it open to a 6-1 Roadrunners advantage with a double off the wall with the bases juiced to bring around two runs.
Romero ended the game for MSU Denver in the seventh after surrendering another run, but would win by a score of 6-3.
GAME TWO
Arellano kicked things off in the second contest with an RBI double shot into the gap in the second inning for a 1-0 MSU Denver lead.
The Mountain Lions responded with an RBI double of their own in the same place to tie the game up at one in the third.
UCCS took the lead in the fourth with a double down the line to bring around the runner from second for a 2-1 advantage. The second error of the inning for MSUD gave the Mountain Lions another run at the end of four frames.
Boring walked with the bases loaded in the sixth to cut the UCCS lead to 3-2, with one out and the bases still full with Brooklyn Enny up to pinch hit. A Geist groundout kept the Mountain Lions in front after six innings of play.
MSU Denver managed to get a runner in scoring position in the seventh but could not bring them around to score, and would fall 3-2 in the final home game of the season.
