@MSUDenverSB: Another Impressive Showing for Roadrunner Leads to Four-Game Sweep Over Black Hills State
DENVER — The MSU Denver Roadrunners completed a four-game weekend sweep over the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets on Sunday afternoon.
With another two wins, the Roadrunners improve to 25-7 overall and 20-3 in RMAC play. They also extend their winning streak to eight games.
Sophomore Natalie Romero continued her dominance for the Roadrunners, going the full seven innings in a shutout win. She struck out eight while allowing five hits. Romero is now 10-2 on the year and threw 13 innings over the weekend without allowing an earned run.
Cheyenne Prieto earned her eighth win of the season in the second contest, throwing 3.2 innings while allowing five runs.
Adriana Bueno had a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-6 across two games, tallying four RBIs, including a bases-clearing double in game two.
Katie Maney and Miki Berg both knocked in three runs during game two. Maney went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, including the game-winning hit. Berg notched the only Roadrunner home run on the day, going 1-for-2 with three runs.
GAME ONE (MSU Denver 3-0)
Similar to yesterday's showdown between Romero and Laci Pesky, both teams did not get on the scoreboard until the bottom half of the fourth when the Roadrunners broke through for three runs.
Genevieve Bower snuck a base hit down the right-field line with the bases juiced to bring around two runs. Bueno knocked in the third run with a single up the middle.
Romero would shut down the Yellow Jackets lineup in the final three innings, earning a complete-game shutout and her second win on the weekend.
GAME TWO (MSU Denver 13-5 5 innings)
Black Hills State struck first in game two of the doubleheader, after a leadoff double and then a single to bring the run home for an early 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners responded with a Prieto single through the left side to bring around Bower, tying the game at one. After two walks in the inning, a third walk with the bases loaded for the Red and Blue registered the second run of the game and the lead.
Bueno put MSU Denver up by four runs, 5-1, thanks to a three-RBI triple off the fence to cap off the first inning.
The Yellow Jackets grabbed three runs in the second and third, making it a one-score game headed into the bottom of the third. MSUD went back out to a four-run lead after scoring three more. Hannah DiFabio knocked one in followed up by a Maney two-RBI double to left field.
Berg made it a six-run 11-5 Roadrunner lead with a towering three-run shot to center field in the fourth. Maney provided the game-winning hit the next inning with an RBI triple and then scored on a throwing error, completing the run-rule win for the Roadrunners.
