@MSUDenverSB: Berg Leads Offense to Game One Win, Roadrunners Fall Short Game Two

DENVER — The MSU Denver Roadrunners split Friday's doubleheader with the Colorado Christian Cougars, with CCU still clinging on to a one-game lead in the RMAC standings.

DENVER — The MSU Denver Roadrunners split Friday's doubleheader with the Colorado Christian Cougars, with CCU still clinging to a one-game lead in the RMAC standings.

MSU Denver moves to 26-8 overall and 21-4 in RMAC play, while Colorado Christian moves to 27-9 overall and 23-3 in the RMAC.

Natalie Romero picked up right where she left off in the circle, tossing her third complete game in a row en route to an MSU Denver win. She allowed just two runs and improved to 11-2 on the season.

Miki Berg, the former Cougar, brought home all five of MSU Denver's runs in the first contest. She smacked a two-RBI double in the third to open the scoring, and then hit a three-run big fly in the sixth to extend the lead to four. Berg hit another homer in game two to open the scoring for the Roadrunners.

GAME ONE
It was a quick first two innings before Berg knocked in two Roadrunners on a shot to the right-center gap, putting her team up 2-0 after three innings of play.

The Cougars responded with a run of their own in the next half inning, thanks to an RBI single to right field.

Berg extended the Roadrunner lead to four with a towering three-run shot to left-center, accounting for all of the MSU Denver runs on the day thus far.

Colorado Christian tacked on one more run in the seventh but that would be all they could muster, leading to a Roadrunners 5-2 win.

GAME TWO
Just like game one, it was Berg who notched the first run of the game with a solo shot to left in the bottom of the second.

Colorado Christian was able to plate two runs in the next half inning for their first lead of the day.

Adriana Bueno tied the game at two apiece in the fourth after a clutch RBI-double off the fence to bring home Berg.

The Cougars answered with three runs (all unearned) in the next frame via a few singles and a fielding error to go up 5-2 headed into the bottom of the fifth.

CCU broke this one open in the top of the sixth with a three-run homer to right, extending their lead by six. They hit another two-run shot a few batters later to go up by eight.

The Roadrunners were unable to retaliate in the next inning, resulting in a run-rule win for the Cougars.

UP NEXT
These two will square off once again tomorrow for another doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. MT.
