@MSUDenverWTEN: Red and Blue Split SoCal Matches Tuesday Afternoon
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AZUSA, Calif. -- The MSU Denver Roadrunners first took down California State-Los Angeles early in the day by a score of 4-2, but then lost 4-0 later in the day against No. 18 ranked Azusa Pacific.
The Roadrunners are now 10-10 overall and 4-3 in PacWest conference play. California State-Los Angeles falls to 1-10 overall while Azusa Pacific improves to 12-2.
Cal State LA earned the doubles point in match one, thanks to wins on courts No. 1 and 2. Kim Heddes and Bella Hernandez secured the win on court three (6-3) but would not count towards a team point.
Heddes would also win her singles match in two sets (6-4, 6-3), the only Roadrunner with multiple wins on the day.
Monica Guarin was perfect in her match, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Kinsey Lockhart also took care of business, going 6-0, 6-3 on court six.
Victoria Ricuarte-Cabas got a close comeback win in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) over Sarah Olmos that was the match-clincher for MSU Denver.
MSU Denver had a tough time against top-20 ranked Azusa, and were unable to record a team point in the match. Guarin and Louise Hosking were in the lead (5-4) on court two in doubles, but went unfinished due to the Cougars clinching the other two courts.
Hanna Haber won the first set on court one in singles (6-4) but was unable to finish the match before Azusa Pacific clinched the win.
UP NEXT
The team will head back to Colorado next week to close out the regular season against Colorado Mesa (two matches), Colorado College, and CSU Pueblo. They will play Colorado Mesa Friday, April 4 at 2:30 p.m. MT in Grand Junction.
