@MSUDenverTEN: Roadrunners Have Tough Day Against In-State Rival Colorado Mesa
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The MSU Denver Roadrunners men's and women's tennis programs each dropped their Pacific West conference matches with Colorado Mesa Friday afternoon. The men lost by a score of 5-2, while the women lost 6-1.
The men fall to 9-11 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while the women fall to 10-11 and 4-4 in conference play. This was the second loss in a row for each squad.
MEN
MSU Denver was able to capture their two points on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts in singles play, thanks to wins from Lluc Limongi Ollers and Alejandro Jimenez. They both won their matches in a quick two sets.
Colorado Mesa won on the other four courts in two sets with the exception of Maximo Lawlor for the Roadrunners, who fought to a third set but would drop a close one.
Ollers took down Henry Scheck 6-4, 6-1. Jimenez beat William Leschig in a closer match up, 6-4, 6-4. Lawlor lost on court six by a score of 6-7, 6-3, 10-7.
WOMEN
The Roadrunners battled hard early on, winning the first doubles court by a score of 6-3, thanks to Hanna Haber and Victoria Ricaurte-Cabas. Kim Heddes and Kambra Roles fell 6-1 in their doubles match up. Moinca Guarin and Louise Hosking dropped a nail-biter on court three by a score of 7-5, with the doubles point going in favor to CMU.
Haber was the only Roadrunner from either team to go perfect on the afternoon, as she won her singles match 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. It would also be the only point her team would earn on the day.
Ricaurte-Cabas was the other MSU Denver player to get her match to three sets, but would fall by a score of 6-1, 6-7, 10-4.
UP NEXT
Both teams will be back in action on Sunday, where they will make their return to the Assembly Athletic Complex after almost a month long road stint. They will play Colorado College at 2:30 p.m. MT.
