@MSUDenverVB: Sweep over Western Colorado Clinches No. 1 Seed in RMAC Tournament

GUNNISON, COLO – The No. 5-ranked volleyball team clinched the No. 1 seed in the RMAC Tournament after sweeping Western Colorado on the road.

GUNNISON, COLO – The No. 5-ranked volleyball team clinched the No. 1 seed in the RMAC Tournament after sweeping Western Colorado on the road.

The Roadrunners victory gives them a 13-0 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with one game to go in the regular season. They have earned at least as share of the RMAC regular season championship with Colorado Mesa, who is currently in second place with a 12-1 record with one game to go. MSU Denver owns the tiebreaker with the Mavericks after defeating them 3-1 on September 21.

It is the fourth straight season that the Roadrunners have won the RMAC regular season title and their eighth overall.

The team will be the No. 1 seed in next week's RMAC Tournament and they will host the first round at home on Tuesday night. If the Roadrunners advance in the quarterfinals, they will host the semifinal and the championship rounds at the Auraria Event Center.

MSU Denver defeated Western Colorado 25-18, 25-20 and 25-16 to improve to 23-2 overall on the season.

The Mountaineers played tough with the nation's No. 5 team, they held a lead in every set and held the Roadrunners well below their average hitting percentage forcing a .239 mark.

But the Roadrunners sport one of the best blocking teams in Division II and came up with 12 total blocks to thwart away every Mountaineer run. Sophomore middle blocker Kryssa Moerman led the way with five block assists and two solo blocks.

Western Colorado held an 18-17 lead late in the second set, but three Roadrunners blocks, including of those solo blocks from Moerman, spurred an 8-2 run that allowed MSU Denver to steal the set.

Alyssa Boyte added four block assists and a solo block to go along with three kills, three assists and five digs. Skyler Michael contributed three block assists to her stat line that included seven kills and three digs and Maddy Williams provided two block assists and six kills.

The Roadrunners will next head to Durango to face off against Fort Lewis at 2 p.m. mountain time. The Skyhawks are coming off a 3-1 win over the Colorado School of Mines.
