@MSUDenverVB: Roadrunners Come Up Short In Regional Final

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The MSU Denver volleyball team fell in the NCAA DII South Central Regional final on Sunday afternoon to Angelo State, 3-1.

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The MSU Denver volleyball team fell in the NCAA DII South Central Regional final on Sunday afternoon to Angelo State, 3-1.
 
Abbie McCrimmon was outstanding defensively racking up a season-high 30 digs and chipping in 11 assists.  Riley Anderson and Annika Helf once again led the team in kills with the pair tallying 18 and 12, respectively.  Amela Qershia led the team with 28 assists in the match.
 
MSU Denver struggled to find a rhythm in in the first set and was unable to get the offense on track.  Angelo State outhit the MSU Denver in the first set .211 to .148.  The Roadrunners would fall 25-19.
 
The Roadrunners would bounce back in the second set behind a strong defensive performance.  Despite not recording a block in the first set, MSU Denver would pick up five total blocks in the second set.  MSU Denver held a 22-19 advantage before Angelo State would make a run and take a 23-22 lead.  The Roadrunners struck back and after and exchange of points, the set would be tied at 25-25.  Angelo State picked up the next two points and won the set 27-25 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
MSU Denver was resilient in the third set.  Once again, the set would be tied late with a score of 18-18.  This time, the Roadrunners would score seven of the next nine points including five kills by Anderson and a service ace by McCrimmon.  MSU Denver won the set 25-20.
 
The final set of the match was again closely contested.  MSU Denver held a 24-22 lead late but a rally by Angelo State forced a tie at 24-24.  The Roadrunners battled and had multiple chances at set point, but in the end, Angelo State earned the win at 30-28.
 
The Roadrunners conclude the season with a record of 29-3 and finishing in the regional final for the fourth-consecutive season.
