Follow the journey of MSU Denver Jazz students as they explore Denver jazz scene, identity, and community. La Paloma, debuted at Jazz Odyssey Presents, hosted by KUVO Jazz. Two-hour performance was accompanied by poems and history remarks by leading member of the band, Paloma Ress. After moving to Denver from a reservation in New-Mexico Paloma felt like she lost a part of her identity. “I wanted the show to kind of be about the magic of what it means to be indigenous and the resilience of that,” she said.

Alan Williams and his son Everett Williams shared a remarkable academic journey at Metropolitan State University of Denver, one that will culminate in them graduating together this spring. Each pursued his own distinct passion — Everett in Exercise Science and Alan in Linguistics. Their paths aligned unexpectedly when Alan transferred credits to MSU Denver where his son had already been studying for a couple of years.

Residents at two Denver-area senior-living facilities have been participating in weekly dance classes led by students and faculty members from Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Dance program. Senior lecturers Nicole Predki and Leslie Merrill Schmidt emphasize the health benefits of dance for older adults, including neuroplasticity and protection against dementia. Their classes, held at Balfour Senior Living and Park Hill Residence, encourage residents to explore movement patterns, breath exercises and somatic awareness.
