@MSUDenverWGOLF: Steady Eye Moves Up at RMAC Championship
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Sydney Eye shot a 4-over-par 76 and Isabel Botero added a 78 on Monday as MSU Denver dropped to fifth place in the team standings at the second day of the three-day Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship.
Botero backed up her first-round 74 and is tied for 12th individually at 8-over, while Eye surged into a tie for 14th at 9-over after shooting a first-round 77.
"Syd had a good day today," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "She played really steady aside from just a couple of holes."
Scores soared for all teams on a windy Monday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, and MSU Denver turned in a four-player score of 32-over 320 after shooting an opening round 299. At 619, MSU Denver is eight strokes behind fourth-place Colorado Christian.
"Overall it was a disappointing day," Ferguson said. "We just didn't adjust well to the wind, and I think we got too far ahead of ourselves score-wise.
Freshman Neige Dunn slid into a tie for 23rd at 156, while Vaijayanti Bharkhada shot 11-over on Monday and is now tied for 28th at 158.
The tournament's final round is set for Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. MDT.
"We're looking to have a more consistent day tomorrow and hopefully work into the top three," Ferguson said.
