MSU Denver Places Sixth in RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – MSU Denver has finished in sixth place in the annual RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's award for the top league's top athletic program is awarded to the institution that accumulates the most points over the year based on its teams' outcome in the RMAC's four core sports, along with six wild card sports.
The four core sports are football or men's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball, while the six wild card sports consist of three men's sports and three women's sports, which are designated by that institution's best finish in those 18 non-core sports (22 total RMAC sports).
Total RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup points are calculated based on how the teams finish in the RMAC regular season standings.
Metropolitan State University of Denver finished third in the RMAC in women's basketball (good for 88 points in the formula), tied for third in volleyball (84.5), sixth in men's soccer (58), and tied for ninth in men's basketball (47).
The Roadrunners scored high in women's tennis (100 points as conference champions), women's soccer (75 points), women's cross country (69) and softball (69). Women's tennis, women's soccer and women's cross country were counted towards the wild card points.
On the men's side, MSU Denver's wild card points came from cross country (63), baseball (60) and outdoor track & field (31).
Colorado School of Mines won its fourth straight RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup.
Using the same formula for women's sports only, MSU Denver had the third-highest total, with 416.5.
