This Week in Roadrunners Athletics
DENVER – The basketball teams finish out their home schedule over the next six days.
SOFTBALL
MSU Denver at Fort Lewis College, 4-game set, Saturday (noon) & Sunday (11am)
The Roadrunners will be back on the road for the second straight week, where they will head to Durango, Colorado to take on the Skyhawks for a four-game set. MSU Denver is coming off a weekend where they went 1-5 against Lone Star opponents on the road. While weather could change the plans of where and when these two teams will play, first pitch is scheduled on Saturday at Noon.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Chadron State vs MSU Denver, Thursday, 6:00 p.m.
South Dakota Mines vs MSU Denver, Saturday, 1:00 p.m.
Colorado School of Mines vs MSU Denver, Tuesday, 6:00 p.m.
The Roadrunners are hoping to rebound after a tough road trip and will get three home games in the next six days. They'll first face off against the Eagles from Chadron State on Thursday night. That will be "Play for Kay" night, where the women's basketball team will be taking donations for cancer research. It'll be senior night for three Roadrunners, as they will welcome in South Dakota Mines on Saturday afternoon. Head coach Tanya Haave and her squad will finish their home schedule with a date with the Colorado School of Mines next Tuesday night.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Chadron State vs MSU Denver, Thursday, 8:00 p.m.
South Dakota Mines vs MSU Denver, Saturday, 3:00 p.m.
Colorado School of Mines vs MSU Denver, Tuesday, 8:00 p.m.
The Roadrunners went 1-1 on their previous road trip falling to Colorado Mesa in double overtime on Thursday before defeating Western Colorado on Saturday. Head coach Dan Ficke will be happy to have the next three games at home, as the squad is battling for playoff positioning. First on the dockett this week is Chadron State on Thursday night. The Eagles are in the hunt for a playoff spot with their 8-6 RMAC record. Then on Saturday afternoon, the Hardrockers from South Dakota Mines will bring their 4-10 record to the Auraria Event Center on senior day. And MSU Denver will finish their home schedule on Tuesday night and it will be a rematch of their 70-66 loss to the Orediggers from January 23.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Don Kirby Invitational, Albuquerque, N.M., Fri & Sat, All Day
Mountain Lion Open, Colorado Springs, Saturday, All Day
Head coach Janis Christopher and her track and field teams are back in action after a week off. A majority of the team will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Don Kirby Invitational. It is a great weekend for the team to compete against top-notch opponents in a big-time environment. Kenny Greene and Naleia Sowell are hoping to improve on their already excellent times to earn spots for the RMAC and NCAA Championships. A smaller portion of the team will head to Colorado Springs for the Mountain Lion Open on Saturday.
MEN'S & WOMEN'S TENNIS
MSU Denver vs Southwest Baptist, Kearney, Neb, Friday
MSU Denver at Nebraska-Kearney, Saturday
MSU Denver vs Hastings College (Neb.), Kearney, Neb, Sunday
The men's and women's tennis teams will head out on the road to Kearney, Nebraska this weekend to start their 2025 spring season. After a couple of exhibition matches under their belts, the team is ready to have a great year. Both squads were picked to finish ninth in the PacWest preseason polls, but their first opponents will be non-conference as they'll battle Southwest Baptist, the host school Nebraska-Kearney and finish the weekend off with Hastings College out of Nebraska.
