@MSUDenverMSOC: Roadrunners Fall 1-0 At Regis
DENVER – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team fell 1-0 at Regis on Sunday afternoon. The Roadrunners are 5-6-3 and 2-2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
"We played very well today," said Head Coach Nick Kirchhof. "We were sharp with our passing. We won our duels. We just missed that finishing touch. We defended very well only allowing one shot on goal and that was a penalty kick."
MSU Denver applied pressure early in the game. Junior Dallas Baer had the first scoring chance for the Roadrunners coming in the eighth minute. Fellow junior Luke Bone attempted to give MSU Denver the lead midway through the first half, but was turned award by Regis keeper Greg Squire. Senior Noah Hannula put another shot on frame late in the first half and Squire again made the save. MSU Denver limited Regis to only one shot in the first half.
Regis would score the only goal of the game 12 minutes into the second half coming off of a penalty kick. MSU Denver would continue to apply pressure to the Rangers defense including four corner kicks. However, only a shot from Bear in the 76th minute would require a save from Squire.
Despite a 14-3 advantage in shots and 4-1 edge in shots on goal, MSU Denver was unable to put a goal up in the game.
Kirchhof added, "I'm happy with the performance, despite it not being the result we wanted. I'm looking forward to our next game."
MSU Denver will return home on Thursday, October 24 when the team will face Adams State at The Assembly Athletic Complex. Game time is set for 6 p.m. Tickets are available at http://RoadrunnersAthletics.com/Tickets.
