Dennis Rudnick, assistant professor of elementary education, MSU Denver: On how “divide and conquer” strategies operate in the U.S. public education system. Sandy Guinn, professor of art, CCD: My Sketchpad, her recently published resource to help students overcome barriers to extemporaneous drawing and creativity.

The OWOW Center and the Auraria Sustainable Campus Program are co-hosting a Guest Speaker Workshop with Renée and Micaela, Co-founders of Womxn from the Mountain. The workshop will cover a brief screening of Suncore Sundown, Intros to Environmental Justice, Ally Training, and an Art/Theater exercise.

Are you ready for the BEST EVENT of Spring 2025!? The Consent Turns Me On (CTMO) Carnival is back for Sexual Assault Awareness Month! Join us for carnival food, consent themed-games, STI Testing from Be You Colorado, a consent petting zoo from PAWsitive Recovery, balloon animal making, a Denim Day themed Photo Booth, on-campus & community resources, and SO MUCH MORE! The carnival will be hosted on Wednesday, April 23rd from 10AM-2PM in Turnhalle 250. The 1st 100 folks who arrive at the carnival wearing Denim will receive a free denim bucket hat! Folks who participate in our passport activity will receive a free consent grocery tote bag. We are so excited to see y'all there!

This event showcases research projects and creative works by undergraduate students in all disciplines across campus through oral and poster presentations. Keynote Lunch at 11:30 Speaker: Dr. Brandon Obgunu, Assistant Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale and Professor at the Santa Fe Institute. The Panorama: Proteins, Pathogens, and Science in Peril Dr. Ogbunu will discuss various projects that examine the forces the dictate disease dynamics, including protein evolution and mathematical epidemiology. Lastly, he will discuss his work at the intersection between science and culture.

It can be easy to think of being a “working student” solely in terms of the challenges of balancing so many competing demands as a student, employee, and all the other roles many MSU Denver students hold. However, skills gained in the workplace –whether on-campus work or off-campus—can actually promote student success in the classroom. Similarly, the skills that help students succeed as students can also make them better employees. In this workshop, students will gain an appreciation for how being a working student can be beneficial, enrich their resume, provide professional and personal development, and otherwise be an asset both in the classroom and workplace!

Join us for "CEL 101: What Does the Name Change Mean for Faculty?" a comprehensive workshop designed to navigate the transition from Service Learning (SL) to Community Engaged Learning (CEL). This session will help faculty understand what CEL is, how it differs from SL, and the implications of this transition for courses and teaching. Key takeaways include understanding the updated Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), how CEL fits into existing courses, and strategies for updating syllabi and Curriculog forms for CEL designation. Faculty will have the opportunity to review case studies of CEL courses, discuss alignment with the new model, and start making live edits to their course materials with support from the CEL team. Interactive Components: Faculty will review a short case study of a CEL course to understand its alignment with new models. Hands-on session for faculty to update their syllabi and Curriculog forms, with live support from the CEL team. Key Takeaways: Understanding the shift from SL to CEL and its impact on academic practices. Practical guidance on updating courses for CEL designation, including revising syllabi to reflect new SLOs and aligning projects with course objectives. Addressing common challenges and documenting reciprocal partnerships effectively. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided. All of us are guilty of becoming "highlighter happy" (highlighting everything) at least once in our lives! Most people have a preferred way to learn, and just highlighting course readings may not be the best way to optimize learning, especially when getting ready for an exam. This workshop will focus on the actual process of understanding patterns and connections among materials, and how to approach exams with confidence! There will be an emphasis on creating graphic organizers and using stress reduction techniques to focus the mind during exams.
